BICI offers comprehensive design services for every aspect of bicycle infrastructure. Working closely with our clients, we propose the best design solutions to accommodate and increase cycling populations through the built environment. Our design services are flexible; we can modify, augment or alter the scope of services to custom-fit client needs.


SITE-SPECIFIC DESIGN

BICI surveys indoor bicycle parking rooms, outdoor parking racks, and other existing or potential bicycle facilities to design efficient infrastructure solutions. Our extensive experience and knowledge allows us to determine the best infrastructure design and placement based on the demands of the current and future cycling community. We draft architectural drawings and 3D models with potential designs at varying price points. Because we strive to work with our clients from conception to implementation, we offer construction management services to oversee the installation of the final design.


INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN GUIDELINES

BICI assists planners, architects and developers determine appropriate design guidelines that facilitate their sustainable transportation goals. Whether prioritizing well-designed parking, or ensuring all entrances and exits are designed for bicycle access, BICI writes design guidelines that will ensure a bicycle-friendly vision in new construction and major renovation projects.

BICI understands the unique needs of daily cyclists, and develops the best possible plans and guidelines. Bicycle design guidelines should prioritize Sufficient, Accessible and Secure (SAS) parking solutions.

Sufficient parking should be provided for not only the current demand but also for expected future demand. Bicycle parking locations with too few spaces can force cyclists to lock in inappropriate places, like to other cyclists’ bicycles or to the infrastructure in a manner that overcrowds the storage space.

Accessible parking solutions can be used by any cyclist, regardless of an individual’s height, strength, or the type of bicycle that he or she rides. Accessibility ensures that all commuters are accommodated by the storage solutions.

Secure parking should allow cyclists to lock a bicycle frame as well as both wheels to the parking structure. Furthermore, the structure should be made from materials that are difficult to cut or otherwise break.


ARTISTIC RACK DESIGN & FABRICATION

BICI offers artistic infrastructure design and fabrication. Unique racks present an opportunity for an institution or municipality to distinguish itself from the surrounding community, or to create multipurpose street furniture. Some BICI’s unique designs have combined wayfinding and parking to create visually striking infrastructure that is as useful as it is aesthetically pleasing.

Because we work hand-in-hand with our clients, racks are designed according to client needs and aesthetic sensibilities. We create pieces that harmonize with the existing built environment. Our pieces range from minimalist racks that allow historic architecture to shine to attention-grabbing pieces that showcase an institution or municipality's commitment to bicycling.
