Resources

BICI has an extensive knowledge and resource library on every aspect of cycling as transportation. We help institutions enlarge cycling communities through the development and dissemination of cycling information. From client-specific safety presentations, to case study reports, BICI educates, motivates and empowers any cycling population.

BICYCLE SHARE FEASIBILITY STUDIES, PROGRAM DESIGN & IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGIES

Bicycle shares are growing in popularity as more municipalities and smaller institutions institute these programs to increase sustainable transportation options within their communities. BICI helps research, design and implement bicycle share models based on the best practices across the country and the desired scope of the client. Rather than being a vendor, with a one-size-fits-all approach, BICI works hand-in-hand with the client to develop a program that best fits budgetary and community requirements.

COMMUNITY SPACE DEVELOPMENT

Both Emily Allen and Mark Simpson’s introduction to bicycle planning was through bicycle advocacy and volunteering at bicycle repair co-ops. Allen and Simpson each have five years of experience working in co-ops in both California and New York, and are intimately familiar with the various models that are used to run these community spaces. BICI works hand-in-hand with clients to develop community spaces that reflect best practices, as well as the needs of the bicycle constituency.

COMMUTER BENEFITS

Bicycle commuter benefits are part of President Obama’s 2009 stimulus, demonstrating a federal commitment to sustainable transportation issues. Other state and federal tax exemptions exist for bicycle-related purchases that can be claimed by employees and offered through their employers. Institutions recognize the improvements to the health and well being of their employees as more choose to get to work by bike. By surveying employees and researching available government benefits and best-practices, BICI develops financial incentives that are cost-effective and successful for increasing bicycle commuter rates.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING

Cyclist safety education is an essential, if often overlooked, aspect for creating a culture of cycling within a specific community. The resources available to new cyclists about the rules and norms of bicycling are not well advertised or easily accessible. By creating a uniform and centralized curriculum, an institution can reach a huge number of potential cyclists, and give them the knowledge they need to be safe, proficient and frequent cyclists.
